The Holzkirchen area was already settled in the early Bronze Age, and in the 13th century Holzkirchen was designated as a village for the first time. The opening of the railroad line in 1857 was an important event for the community. Even today, the town has excellent connections, both important roads (A8, B13) and trains (S-Bahn line S7, BRB, Meridian) connect Holzkirchen with the surrounding area and the Bavarian capital.
