Until the 1950s the area was a wll-known culitvation area for pepppermint and still today the local peppermint museum in the formner municipal library commemorates this. After breaking off of the neighborhood of Alling, Eichenau became an independet municipality in 1957. The S-Bahn line S2 runs every 20 minutes and is a fast and easy connection to Munich's city center.
The many lovely single-family houses, semi-detached houses and terraced houses characterize this neighborhood. Families love Eichenau for its good schools and its broad spectrum of leisure activities, such as a beachvolleyball field, a large tennis complex and a skate park.
