Ismaning is located approx. 14 km north of Munich (city center) and has approx. 17,000 inhabitants. At the beginning of the 18th century, the Prince-Bishop of Freising decided to make the imperial county of Ismaning his official summer residence. The town owes its magnificent Rococo palace, which attracts many visitors from the surrounding areas, to this circumstance. Other attractions include the water tower built in 1913, the Allianz Center for Technology, as well as the Kallmann Museum.

The S-Bahn station S8 Ismaning connects the district to Munich's city center, which can be reached in less than half an hour.
